In recent years, more and more people are saying farewell to traditional gas heating systems in search of more energy efficient, sustainable and cost effective alternatives.
If you are finding yourself in this situation and have decided to decommission your floor ducted heating system. You might be wondering what to do with the floor registers. Goodbye Heating Vents by ecoMaster are the answer!
Forget Subpar Applications
Removing the floor vents and finding a way to seamlessly match the timber. Or patch the carpet, can be quite a challenging task. We have heard of some very “creative endeavours”, including Weetbix boxes (I kid you not!). Rolled up newspapers, pillows, or chunks of MDF screwed onto the floorboards (trip hazard?!).
Bid Farewell to Pesky Rodents
If having rodents in your home is not for you, it may be that some of these “creative undertakings” might not be appropriate. So when ecoMaster’s underfloor insulation installations crews faced the very same dilemma, we came up with the perfect solution: Goodbye Heating Vents.
Installing Goodbye Heating Vents by ecoMaster
ecoMaster’s fabulous and convenient kits offer a simple and effective way to deal with your decommissioned floor registers. Instead of trying to remove the vents and risking damage to your flooring.
Simply lift off the register and insert a square of R2.5 polyester insulation into the duct. This is crucial because it prevents rodents from entering your home through the ducting.
Using other materials may encourage rodents. From years of experience working in our clients’ homes, we know they love some other types of insulation! 🙁
Once the polyester insulation is in place, take the foil board supplied in the kit and push it into the adapter boot. Make sure you create an airtight seal. This step is important to ensure that no drafts can enter your living space.
What’s equally important is if you notice any gaps between the boot and the floor, it’s also a good idea to seal them as well.
Finally, drop the register back into place, and there you have it! Your registers will look just as they did before. But now you can rest easy knowing that no matter what happened to the old ducting, your home is protected from rodents and drafts. Goodbye Heating Vents offer a practical and convenient solution to the issues that arise when moving away from gas heating systems.
This convenient kit comes in two sizes and includes everything you need to treat 4 outlets. The medium and large sizes are designed to cover the most common floor outlet sizes. You will also want to treat the return air intake and you may need to use a couple of outlet treatments for this larger duct.

⇒ Why should I consider decommissioning my gas floor heating vents?
Decommissioning gas floor heating vents can be beneficial for several reasons. Firstly, it can help improve energy efficiency in your home by eliminating potential heat loss through the vents. Additionally, decommissioning can enhance indoor air quality by preventing the circulation of dust and allergens that often accumulate in old vents. Lastly, it can also contribute to a safer home environment since gas heating can pose a risk of carbon monoxide leaks.
⇒ What should I replace the gas ducted heating system with?
To replace a gas ducted heating system, a suitable alternative would be a reverse cycle air conditioning system. Reverse cycle air conditioning (RCAC) provides both heating and cooling options, making it a year-round solution for maintaining a comfortable indoor temperature.
1. Energy efficiency: Reverse cycle air conditioning uses energy-efficient heat pump technology to extract ambient heat from the outside air and transfer it indoors. This method consumes significantly less energy compared to gas systems, resulting in reduced energy bills.
2. Cost-effective: With the rising costs of gas and its associated maintenance expenses, reverse cycle air conditioning proves to be a cost-effective alternative. The initial installation cost may be higher, but the overall savings in energy usage can compensate for it in the long run.
3. Climate control: Reverse cycle air conditioning offers precise temperature control, allowing users to set their desired level of comfort throughout the year. It can be easily adjusted to cool or heat specific rooms or zones, ensuring personalized and efficient heating and cooling.
4. All-in-one solution: By choosing reverse cycle air conditioning, you eliminate the need for multiple separate systems for heating and cooling. This provides convenience and simplifies your home’s HVAC setup.
5. Environmentally friendly: Gas combustion in traditional heating systems releases greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change. Reverse cycle air conditioning systems are electrically powered and produce fewer emissions, making them a more eco-friendly choice.
6. Improved air quality: Reverse cycle air conditioning uses filters to remove dust, pollen, and other airborne pollutants from the indoor air. This helps to promote better overall air quality in your home, benefiting your health and reducing allergy symptoms.
